Welcome to the May edition
of news about Lake George, New York!

Gearing up for summer

Can you believe we've already had near 80 degree days in Lake George! There has already been some beautiful weather to take advantage - and we can only image the wonderful summer ahead of us!

Many of our local businesses are preparing for the summer season. You see new inventory arriving, clean up and improvements being made, and just that general spring buzz in the air. In the heart of Lake George, you will also notice a new addition. On the site of the old "Comfort Station," there is a new welcome center which will include an information center feature brochures and menu of our local establishments as well as restroom facilities. As we've watched this being built from the ground up, we can truly say how excited we are to see it open to the public this spring!

On a sadder note, there are some businesses who will not be returning to Lake George this season. At the end of April, fire devasted 5 local stores who shared a common attic space (which is how the fire spread so rapidly). Our hearts are with these businesses, as some have been long time icons of the village. The stores affected are: Kites, Tails & Toys, the Bear Trading Co., Bob's Ice Cream, The Wizard's Den and Gilligan's Restaurant. A store next door, Somewhere in Time, was also damaged.. You can view how devasting this fire was from the Post-Star newspaper website.

As you walk down the village streets this spring and summer, be sure to think encouraging thoughts for these store owners as they make plans for how they will recover. And don't forget that the shops do not end where the fire did. Keep on walking! There are many more businesses all around who are ready for the season and would welcome your business.

There is our calendar of events below. We hope this helps in your plans. We can't wait to see you in Lake George this summer! And remember, with gas prices so high these days, it truly makes for an economical get away!

Sincerely,
The LakeGeorgeValues.com Team
