Welcome to the June edition
of news about Lake George, New York!

Summer is here!

The "unofficial start to summer" this Memorial weekend could not have been any better! With sunshine and temperatures well into the 80's, there was plenty to enjoy! Whether you played a round of minature golf, took a walk around the lake, got the boat in for a journey or to splash in one of the swimming areas (brrr... the water is still a bit chilly), browsed the many local shops, or just went for a BBQ, it was truly a great weekend!

And with such a great start, we look ahead to all the summer has in store for us! This month, we focus on a hot topic every June - Brides & Babies! You always hear about the beauty of June bride, but this also seems to be a big time for baby as well. For our staff, we are on the lookout for a new member of our own team, as our founder is awaiting her own delivery this summer (though not until July!).

This issue offers a reflection on wedding stories as well as resources for those looking for special gifts for unique area shops. Don't worry! It's not all about that! We still have our usual news and calendar so you can stay on top of all of the latest happenings in the area!

Special note: We know our news last month of the fire in the heart of Lake George destroying 5 shops affected many people. We have no current official update, though the fire seemed to be electrical in nature. Local officials are working hard to make this now empty space a useful area for tourists this summer, perhaps with temporary vendors to augment the many festivals which happen in the park across the street.

Sincerely,
The LakeGeorgeValues.com Team

GOING TO THE CHAPEL

Every summer, many new couples begin a life together as husband and wife. Getting married on Lake George is a special way to begin that journey. One summer, my husband and I got to witness a special wedding which I still look back on often.

We didn't know the bride or groom. We weren't invited guests. We didn't even know there was a wedding! We had simply taken our boat our for a wonderful Saturday afternoon cruise. We dropped anchor near the village so I could catch some sun and my husband could catch some bass.

As we are floating there, we notice that one of the nearby cruise boats has a lot of activity at the bow. We watch as staff puts finishing touches on a arch with ribbons and balloons; as guests shuffle into seats on deck; and eventually, as music begin to play.

Now, my husband isn't a mushy guy, but even he took noticed as the groom took his place and the nervous bride marched down her floating aisle. She was beautiful with her flowing white gown and hair pinned up on a glorious sun-filled Saturday afternoon.

We couldn't hear the minister or the vows, but could still follow along the ceremony. As the reached the moment for the first kiss as man and wife, we heard the applause from the ship and my husband reached for the boat horn, only to find he wasn't alone. Along with the applause of the invited guests, there were many of us uninvited guests watching from the water creating a cacophy of boat horn applause as well. It just seemed magical. And I think the happy couple thought so too, as we could see them laugh and turn to wave at their unknown audiences.

The bridal party shuffled into the hall of the boat awaiting the reception followed by the onboard guests. We went back to our own conversation, sunbathing and fishing. Every now and then, we'd glance over to see a toast here and there, and eventually, the boat depart for its cruise. We left shortly after. As we reached our dock, we realized we had passed the reception and waved one last time as the ship passed our dock as we were packing up.

We decide then and there, for our tenth anniversary, we'd book a cruise for our friends and family on Lake George. Every anniversary, we remind each other that we are one year closer to our own special cruise. It will be here before we know it!
