Welcome to the October/November edition
of news
about Lake George, New York!

Letter from our editor:

It’s been a busy month in the Lake George region. We at LakeGeorgeValues.com are deeply saddened by the accident which occurred on Lake George October 1 causing a loss of 20 lives. Our newsletter this month is a bit delayed as a result as we have thoughtfully considered this tragedy and tried to absorb what this means to us personally and professionally.

I believe this horrible tragedy will have an impact on the cruise industry, not only in Lake George, but nationally. Already, we’ve seen the state request an adjustment to weight calculations for passenger limits. This accident will not have taken these lives without some good resulting. In the short run, it will take us all time to reflect on our own thoughts about this, but in the long run, I believe there will be positive changes, which hopefully will prevent such an occurrence in the future.

As for cruising Lake George? I would do it again in a heartbeat! I won’t forego my annual trip up the lake on one of the cruise boats to show off to my family the beauty this area holds. I will proudly take my parents with their walkers and my baby niece and nephew. And maybe this fall we will even take a foliage trip to enjoy the wonderful colors.

One local weekly newspaper, The Chronicle, did their homework to discover what the accident history on our lake has been. They reported the last commercial accident as happening in 1892. It was so long ago, in fact, the reports on what happened are quite vague. By far, the recent accident is the largest loss of life in such an accident on Lake George. We can only pay due diligence as the investigations continue to learn lessons and we just all need to do our part to play it safe. The story on October 1 could have been much worse if it weren’t for so many observant boaters coming to the aid of the victims. For this awareness and quick action, we all thank you and God bless you.

Welcome Fall!

The summer heat has past (and boy, was this a hot summer!), and now it is time to welcome fall. The Adirondacks have so much to offer during the fall months – and it’s not too late to enjoy it!

Most popular is the beautiful fall colors. We’ve noticed some vibrant burnt reds all around – our personal favorites! Whether you are taking an afternoon stroll or weekend ride, look all around for the beauty the country has to offer. To help find the area's with best color, use New York State’s Fall Foliage guide.
